About a week ago when it was really nice out one night, I went out and set up a tripod and did some Holiday Home shooting. I really liked my subjects, they were very cooperative and even though they blinked a few times, I was able to come away with some nice images. (Note the humor in this referencing people portraiture!)
The newspaper I work for, ran several of the images in today's edition. They looked nice, but I just feel like the sparkle of them lacks a little, so I've picked two of my favorites and am sharing them here with you.
Enjoy, Merry Christmas and many blessings this weekend. Don't forget to go drive around your town or city to take in the brilliance of the holiday lights. It's a lot of work and for one, I appreciate the efforts of all those who do that. It reminds me of my childhood when my mom and sister would take me to some of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the Bay Area in California.

The Owl T

Today we created a special seasonal T, with a unique owl on it. This is the first "girlie" T I've ever designed. I did the Sandra Lee way of simplifying it. Though it isn't food, it's the same principle. Being Mya's Meme, I look for shortcuts whenever possible. So I bought the T, then grabbed a couple 97cent pieces of precut fabric, then decided to think out of the box for embellishments. I couldn't find the right buttons for eyes and wanted to really make this more than just some fabric and felt. The little ribbon flowers were perfect. Mya loved the colors, "Yes, zebra wings!" Out came the iron and scissors and soon we had our Owl.
Then of course, we had to go do a quick fashion photo shoot to show off the finished top.
When you're a grandma "meme" and you work, even if it's vacation, you make the most of the time with your little one! Best part of all this, she helped!

What's a Thanksgiving without drama, right?

We decided to have our Thanksgiving dinner the day after, today...Friday. Yes. But of course, it couldn't go off without a bit of drama. Well, make that a LOT OF DRAMA...fire, flames, smoke, 911, firefighters, police...But as you can see, the bird survived.

Before you start reading, just know this small important thing-- if you call the fire department to your house and the fire is out, you better be outside to tell them so, otherwise they will be coming in with extinguishers, axes and water hoses.

I chose a new way to cook the bird. I was reading the Norman Magazine online and there was an article about the 'fat and sassy mama' a popular foodie blogger. In it she talked about just using foil and never taking it off while cooking. I've always used the way my mom did, a homemade thick pie crust cover, lots of basting. Never a problem, always moist and perfect.

Well only one problem with fat and sassy's method, I had a 25 pound bird in my standard oven and when we took the foil off finally so it could brown, there was so much of its own juice it was literally overflowing. As my husband went to put the bird back into the oven oh so carefully, some of the juice poured out onto the foil on the oven. We watched it and it seemed fine. Remember now, that juice is bird grease.

Meanwhile, I went about getting the last few things ready for the table, and about 15 minutes later the kitchen got VERY smoky...and I turned around and FREAKED out.
No other way to describe it, my oven was flaming!

I started screaming Fire, fire...as I was running out of my kitchen, Rex comes running in and we collide and I'm not sure how we switched places, but all I could think of was call 911...my son goes hauling into the kitchen and I'm screaming at my d-i-l to get Mya (our 4 year old granddaughter) out of the house.

By this time I get this dread feeling the whole kitchen is in flames as I looked back and saw lots of orange going on. I go running outside trying to tell the dispatcher our address when my husband yells it's out and cancel the call. No, sorry, I want those firefighters here NOW!

I tell her though the fire is out, no need to send the army (I did use those words, haha). Just one truck though please. I'm standing outside barefoot and shaking mostly from adrenaline rush and finally the trucks come rolling, and the first one kept going???? Right past our house.

Second truck rolls up, meanwhile I'm like "you idiots, right here!" Then I look over and see the neighbors looking at me like what in the world?!
Then my husband comes walking outside and of course, up rolls a DPD cruiser..meanwhile they all have sirens ablazing.

Lo and behold, this is where it gets really fun. Of course, one of the first firefighters I see is friend Jeff Bruehl, wife of good friend Pam Bruehl, owner of Prairie Rose Boutique on Main Street Duncan .....now mind you, for those who don't know Duncan, yes, we have a large enough population base that you don't necessarily know your neighbors.
On the other hand, if you are a celebrity like myself, then you know most of those that you NEED to know!
And of course, the first firefighter off the truck was grabbing an axe or hose or something. I was like NO, I could just see my bird being completely destroyed at that point.

In we all head, what, five or six firefighters? My husband knew the Officer on duty and so they stood outside and laughed and chatted a few.

Now, if you are wondering why I would make the fire department come out, here's why. First, it's a gas stove and I guess I just read too many crazy things being a journalist and all, but I was worried the fire could have done something to my gas lines. Second, there was a HOUSE filled with smoke. I knew these guys could blow this house out in seconds! That's very important when you are choking and don't want the house to smell like smoke. (It worked).

Meanwhile, Jeff kept saying, 'hey, you done good, you done good!' Not sure what he was meaning, but I think it was because the bird look BEAUTIFUL! They all walked around, did their thing, Jeff checked under the stove just to ease my mind..(that's when I noticed I needed to clean under it). He insists it was good compared to most they see.
I asked Jeff if yesterday was eventful, he said no. See, I told him, you needed this! They were all hoping to really have a fire! Hahhaha!
Jeff said they had just sat down to eat at the Quality Inn when the call came in (oops, sorry guys!) I offered them dinner, there was plenty, but I think they thought I was joking.

Then it's time for one of the guys to write my name and phone number down for their report. That's when Jeff said, "what, you don't know who this is?!" And told the one guy, she's the one always snapping your photo at all the scenes. My husband thought that was extremely funny.
The firefighter's reply? "Oh, you owe me a lot of ice cream!" And of course, everyone was laughing and talking about how this should be page 1 news.
And somehow I got blamed for starting the fire. My husband finds that very funny!
Yes, the bird was moist.
Right before we sat down to eat, I made a comment like, now all we need is a good earthquake.
And the poor firefighters? For the next 20 minutes or so I kept hearing plenty of sirens. I may have to cook them a meal one of these days.

There I am shopping in our local neighborhood grocery store Friday and see the newest American Cowboy on the shelf. Immediately I saw the words Chisholm Trail and grabbed up a copy and started flipping through it. I squealed when I saw a small image of mine on page 37, of my cowboy morning ride silhouette. I have a tendency to go from back to front with magazines.
A couple more pages and my excitement tripled. There was the cover of my book, Riding the Chisholm Trail, filling half of page 32!

I can remember seeing the first copy of American Cowboy years ago and though I'm more of a city girl than country (also never been on a horse) I've got quite a collection of cowboy, rodeo and horse images. I also have always wanted to have my images in that magazine. Here's the story of how it happened.

A few weeks ago, a friend, Cova Williams with the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center, called me to tell me about Bob Welch writing an article for American Cowboy. He needed some photos to go with his article which was about life on the trail and she thought of my cattle drive photos from 2007, that was the year of Oklahoma's centennial and there was a month long cattle drive from the Red River to the Kansas border.

I only had a day to shoot, as they came through Stephens County and Duncan. A couple years later I decided I needed to do something with the photos and then it dawned on me. I'm a writer, just call these cowboys and get their stories. Then I went into editing mode and eventually the book was ready.

The cover and the silhouette were the images I sent her, providing a one-time usage to American Cowboy. I had forgotten all about it until I saw them in the magazine. Pretty awesome! I've had my images in magazines before but this has to be one of my finer moments. I had another photo from this same event make it into Cowboys & Indians 2009 Photographing the West annual contest.

Cool dish on a hot day - Oklahoma foodie photographer

I picked up a copy of Southern Lady today and at the same time, grabbed the ingredients for a recipe in it, but I always deviate from the original. So well worth it. Some people claim they can't afford to eat healthy or that it takes too much time. I disagree.
I hate sitting in a drive-thru for fast food, especially in 110 degree weather. Actually when I got into my car today, it said 116! Just trying to do chores was a bit much for this girl who hails from the city by the Bay and spent most of her life living in areas like Colorado or the Pacific Northwest.
Someone said yesterday this could just stay hot like this through September.
But back to the food since I know you are wanting to know how to make it.
I didn't have a ring mold, and thanks to a great foodie who has the most delectable business on Main Street (Distinctive Decor - check it out online and facebook - They ship everywhere!) he suggested I use a tuna can. Perfect.
The quick version is chop up an avocado, sprinkle some lemon juice, salt and pepper on it, put it into your fancy ring mold. In a bowl, mix up blue crab, a Tablespoon of fresh chopped dill, 2 T. mayo, salt, pepper, some lemon zest. That goes in next, then your tomato on top. Yummy.
I added two secret ingredients, but this is the recipe in the book. Oh yes, they had parsley. This was perfect, easy to make and not too much for a hot day.
I also made a tropical sangria, courtesy of the recipe in the magazine. More yummy for a hot day.
Five stars.
"About the dish" - I've had this really neat dish for a long time. It's been packed away, pulled out, considered for etsy, stuck back in the cupboard. I kept thinking one day I will have a great little meal to put on it and get some cool shots. Well, as you see, it finally found its meal.

The Anti-Extreme Couponing Test

I just happened to have one of those rare days when I woke up at 6 a.m. and was ready to enjoy my day. With predictions of 100 degree weather I also decided to go shopping early and get it out of the way. I grabbed my newspaper out of my driveway and quickly went through it to find the coupons. Today, they were in it. The last few Sundays we haven't had any and I just don't normally buy the city paper for $2. I prefer local news reading being I'm on a budget and all, right?!
Anyway, there's only a handful of coupons I would clip and use. I'm not one of those to buy things just because there's a coupon or because it's on sale. Either it has to be something we will use or a really really good bargain.
But it still has to be something I'd use.
In today's coupons, I found the usual toothpaste, V8 tomato juice and splashers, which I would buy. Our family is a liquid type bunch.
And then I saw the ULTIMATE coupon! $2 off a four pack of Seattle's Best Coffees. I love those things. I quit drinking Starbucks Frappuccinos a few weeks ago and then discovered SBC had made it to Oklahoma - finally! There was also a coupon for Excedrin, any kind, 20 count or more, .75 cents off, and I thought this was a good day.
So I went to Wal-Mart first for a couple things I needed from there which I knew Homeland and Walgreens don't have.
And I still didn't get my SBC. Guess I'll have to make my own today!
But, at 7 a.m. Wal-Mart is working against couponers of all kinds. They literally had pulled ALL the Excedrin, except for back and body and migraine. Well I got the migraine 24 count.
Then I went to get SBC, I knew they would have it. They always have it. Nope. It was all pulled off the shelf too. How convenient for them.
I finished my shopping there, headed to checkout and had a total of, are you ready for this? $3.50 in coupons. Whoa, hold the lines. Bring the film crew, right.
So the guy starts scanning, then the Excedrin coupon won't go through. Says item not found. Well he knew he just rang it up. He starts looking at that coupon, dissecting it, looking at the fine print, etc.. I'm like, just read it...pretty obvious it's for any kind, picture or not.
He says Walmart won't allow override of coupons now. Meanwhile, he's still trying to find something to say about not taking the coupon. Ugg. Then he goes out to the other clerk (I'm in the garden section). She says override it. Of course, meanwhile, I'm making comical comments like, wow, I'm some extreme couponer,huh -- it's not like I have 10 bottles and coupons here. Let's not save .75 cents. I seriously was ready to put the item back (even though it is something I'd normally buy).
Plus I had about $50 in groceries and other items.
I also went to Homeland, they don't have any SBC either. But they at least honored the $1 coupon on A1 steak and DOUBLED it, making that buy a .99 cent item. Whoohoo.
As I was walking out of that store, an older woman was in the store with a couple coupons, paid for some items, went outside and got her BOX, yes, a huge file cabinet type box to return to do her Extreme Coupon shopping. I was half tempted to go follow her just to see what success she would have.
But, the point of this blog post was to give you a heads up. Walmart is doing its best to shut down couponers on any items which might prove popular. I thought so the last few times I went shopping when I didn't find the items on the shelf. Now I know. Because I am sure no couponer in Duncan, America, would have been able to wipe out shelves and shelves of Excedrin. Why else would they 'eliminate' that coupon at the register? Think about it.

They are who they are. - Trail Dance Film Festival review

It's Trail Dance Film Festival weekend here in Duncan, Oklahoma, which is always fun. While some people love seeing the odd, quirky or 'horror' flicks, I like to watch the local, Oklahoma productions and documentaries.
Friday night the festival kicked off with the premiere of "Moving On" which was filmed right here in Duncan. Fantastic show. I'll add links at the bottom for the Q&A I filmed afterward (from my great seat in the audience!).

I wasn't feeling really good this morning, so I slept in and missed On Sacred Ground, but I believe I can buy the DVD anytime. Moving On is also available on DVD.

This afternoon though, I was glad to be one of many, many people to stand in line for Loving Lampposts, the story of Sam, an autistic child, told from his father's perspective and also a great documentary that Todd Drezner (Sam's dad) shot over a 2 1/2 year time span. I went away from the movie feeling much better about autism.
I learned so much and wished I had taken some notes of quotes, but this is what I got from it that I want to share:
They are who they are.
Autism children and people do things for a reason. Whether it's the sounds or actions they do, it is for a reason. If we're not as smart to understand why, the least we can do is TRY to understand why they are doing whatever they do.
It's important to establish a relationship with your autistic child. That's the first step in helping them.
While language seems to be a barrier for autistic children, it's not always permanent. Many autistic children grow up to have functioning, capable lives. And carry on normal conversations. And obtain degrees.
It's not the fault of one parent. In fact, it's not a fault, unless you believe the vaccine connection, which I believe hasn't been completely ruled out. The explanations are difficult for the basis of autism.
Make your autistic child's life as clean as can be. "Heal the body" before the brain is completely damaged. I loved that part! There are so many TOXINS out there that are literally causing the health demise of our population.
The most frightening thing out of the movie was the alarming growth in autism diagnoses. Something like 1 out of 100 today, compared to 1 out of 2,500 just a few years ago. Something is so wrong with that increasing number. I liked that there are actually huge conventions that focus just on Autism and how to make life better and easier for those diagnosed with it.

One person in the movie said there is probably a guarantee that you or I know someone with an autistic relative, or that you have an autistic relative or loved one.
Yes, I do. My grandson, Roman. And we hope that his little brother, my sweet grandbaby Brian isn't going to have it. Their mom, my daughter-in-law, has her hands full, since she and my son are not together now. That's one thing that also was addressed. Autism takes it's toll on families and many do fall apart.
I can remember watching Roman go from a happy interactive little baby, to a little boy who didn't necessarily connect. I loved that after a bit of work, he'd respond to me when he realized I was taking his picture.
When I sat down to watch Loving Lampposts, I'll admit, I was wiping away tears. It was hard for me to just cement myself to that seat when Sam came onto the screen. But I'm so glad that I did. I left without tears and feeling a much better understanding of autism.
They are who they are.
And all you can do is love them. And learn.

I also realized that autism is something that has many people struggling to understand. Even right here in Duncan, Oklahoma. The filled audience was evidence of that.

Portrait of a Firefighter - Oklahoma photographer

Tim Helton is a retired firefighter and the husband of a friend of mine. He volunteered to be the model for Live Model Night this month at the Chisholm Trail Arts Council Community Fine Arts Center & Gallery. He did a fantastic job. It was a small turnout with three of us, including Tim's wife, Shirley, who were photographers. The others who came were artists and did sketch studies. It was fun and I stayed an hour longer than I planned.
I wasn't going to show or post this, as I wanted to wait and print it for display in the gallery, but economics being what they are these days, that may not happen for a few months.
I love being able to photograph and then getting creative with my work later.

Now a word of caution. I'm going on my soapbox.
Just remember, if you are a relatively new photographer, shoot plenty of things and experiment with your own work, not another photographer's work, if you are learning digital paint programs or textures.

I know that the majority of photographers I know, whether online or in person, don't like it when someone else 'Plays' with their work, especially a finished published piece. Just because it's on the Internet doesn't mean it's up for grabs and if someone shares an image with you they took, that also doesn't give you the right to rework their image to your own liking.
All I'm saying is respect the 'artist's work.'
I don't know how often this needs to be said, because you can see this same type of rant on many a photographer's blog, facebook, forums or other places. Yet, so many people continue to violate copyrights and disrespect artists.
OK, stepping down now!
Get out there, photograph, draw, paint...whatever it is that inspires you. Share it with the world or keep it private. Just find the inner artist in you!

A couple weeks ago I did little MM's annual Christmas portraits. Being that we are on a strict budget this year, I couldn't get the set I wanted, so I had to be creative. A few pieces of white posterboard, a roll of red velvet ribbon, a couple of vintage bows bought from a booth at a local boutique/antique store with proceeds from sales in that booth benefitting the local pet shelter, and a bag of snow from the $store and we were all set. A few of these are edited, but most are just fast fixes to put up on the blog for relatives to see who live away from here.

And of course, after uploading I can see some are off wb. Oh well. Lots more to come in a slideshow. She had two dresses.

Marshmallow Pops become Marshmallow Christmas Cupcakes guarded by the solider at the Wish Tree

What's easier and better than making sugar cookies with your 3 year old granddaughter at Christmas? Marshmallow Pops, or in this case, Marshmallow cupcakes!

There were no lollipop sticks to be found so instead we used mini cupcake papers found in the Christmas aisle and actually it was more fun probably and instead of spending extra money on the things that go with all that, we just bought more sprinkles!

And of course she's ever the photographer's assistant because she refused to eat any of them until "AFTER" the photo shoot. That was her remark, no prompting from me. Go figure. Gotta love moments like that. And now the Nutcracker soldier guards the treats next to the Wish Tree in our kitchen. He even got his own Christmas Marshmallow treat top because he does such a good job guarding the Christmas wishes until Santa collects them.

Empowering Women - Oklahoma Photographer

I am so behind on my blogging. I have many things to blog about lately, but haven't had time. I did want to share a session I did with someone I admire. Sheri is the first (that we know of, we being Dawn at Personal Best, Sheri and myself) from this area into female figure building. That takes some dedication and probably soul searching. I'm doing good if I work out more than a few times a month. I can't imagine this dedication to exercise. S. says she is addicted. She has to be. Dawn is a total slave driver. This was just a photo shoot and I felt like I worked out. (ouch.)

Here's a few of the images from the posing and practice session. Dawn wanted Sheri to have some images to review so she could see what she needs to work on and for pointers when they go to competition. Apparently judges are looking for something in their muscle definition and stances. Beyond me. I just like having a chance to play with my lighting and get to shoot something different once in awhile. While this was most definitely work, it also was much easier than newborns and chasing three-year-olds!

From where? - Oklahoma photographer, writer

Why is it that so many of us start a bio or something other mini blip, blurb or intro about ourselves by telling "where we are FROM" instead of where we are at the moment. I happened to be reading an etsy profile and the person started out with where she grew up, you know the usual, "I was raised in Philadelphia and did this and this..." and her spiel went on for about four paragraphs, long ones at that, before she actually told readers that she was living in another state and city, thousands of miles away. Go figure.
Really? Umm...you already had that in your shop profile. And usually it's years ago when we were at the place we were born or raised and it really becomes a blip on the radar.

Unless you are like me and it really does figure into your essence of who you are now.

I was told that I was born in Oakland, but years later, found out that it was really San Francisco. Not sure what that was all about. Well I probably should check the b.c. to make sure what it says. Anyway, without providing the boring deets, I'll say that around 2000 when I went to work at the paper where I have sort of remained (I swear there's a chain around my ankle...ha!), someone asked me to share a little about my life, asked where I originally came from, so I said SF, and they prodded a bit more. Finally I relented and said, offhandedly, Pacifica, since that's where I lived for several childhood years. Mom had a music studio there and I remember moving day which transported us across the country to Oklahoma (which was a brief stay of about five or six years at that time.)

As soon as I said Pacifica, this person lets out a squeal. Tells me that someone in the front office is from there. Seriously?! You have to be joking!

So later on break I go up there to meet this person and she's been working at the paper for at least 20 years or so, but we begin talking about our hometown and of course, I mention my mother's music studio and her deep involvement in Pacifica, San Francisco's music and arts scene.

Here's the kicker, Linda, it turns out, was one of my mother's piano students.

Just crazy. Just goes to show where we're from could affect where we're going and where we are.

And by the way, I also claim Colorado as a homestate, and a few others! It's really a matter of where you want to be. Right?!

And right now I enjoy being in Oklahoma. I know I said above I was only here briefly. That's true. But I ended up back here. Will I ever say I'm 'from Oklahoma', maybe, maybe not, just depends on the conversation and my mood. And I'll say the colors of Oklahoma autumns are just gorgeous this year!

Talk about beautiful babies! Caden and Cambria (actually, Cambria is on the left in the pair pic). I think they were tired of trying to be little models today. I'll have to return again soon though as they are getting past that posey stage that newborn photographers love. These are my grandbabies and are going to be loved just as much as my others, in fact they already are! This is probably the closest we will get for a Halloween type photo, though I do plan to try again soon. These babes arrived 10-10-10 and each weighed just over 4 pounds and were about 16 inches long. They are so precious!

It was funny, Cambria knew when she was not getting all the attention and then when I tried to put them together to put their arms around each other, she wanted only to sleep and not have her space invaded. So cute! Caden, well he was just a quiet little guy. "Peanut!" Funny, that's what I used to call his daddy when he was a baby.

And look at this smile! Heart melt for sure. Next one is mom Maurie giving a soothing touch to little mister!

On "Mom-hood"

Every once in a while, I actually blog here. Tonight is one of those times.

1. I have to realize I am not to blame and not responsible for the actions of my grown children. I knew that, just needed a reminder/wake-up call.
2. Even so, they are my children and I love them, faults and all. I mean, I have plenty of my own, but also, they make mistakes. It doesn't make them a bad person. And just because they may not fit the whole 'norm of society' doesn't mean they can't be a good parent. (I even make mistakes.)
3. It also doesn't mean they don't love their own children and sometimes it takes longer for some people to "grow up" as opposed to others. It still doesn't make them a bad person.
4. If you come at me and say mean and hurtful things to me about my children, even if they are grown, just know the nice gloves come off. Now if you want to say those things directly to the adult child, well then fine, but if you are suppose to be a professional, then please be professional. Don't attack me, or whoever it is and don't make it personal.
-- Especially when you know VERY LITTLE of the entire story. There's always more to the story then you think you know.
5. Don't be so quick to judge. I'm guilty of this one even recently. And again, events sometimes serve as that wake-up call. Don't be so quick to believe the worst of someone and if a person admits they have issues, problems, etc...do something to help, not compound the problem.

6 is the best: Friends and prayer can work miracles.

7. Don't lie to me. There's no point in it. I'll probably find out soon enough that you did. You don't have to tell me everything, if you want, leave out the good stuff. Just don't lie to me! Or I won't trust you.
8. Don't threaten me. I'm not easily intimidated.

9. Back to the 2 and 3 posts. Look, I did the best I could raising my children. For the most part, I don't feel I did so bad, but weeks like this, when everyone (general loose used term there in the everyone bit) is attacking me, I wonder where I went wrong, then I realize, hey, stop that. I should tell these people that too, no matter who they think they are. But, I wasn't handed a parenting book when I gave birth.
Everyone has their own ideas of raising children. That's the great thing about being a parent. Gosh, it would be an awful boring world if all children were raised the same or by a "set of standards" that a few think are the way to go. I know that my mom raised me very much different from the way she raised her older children, or even my sister. My sister claims I was mom's favorite and she was always bragging on me. I never much heard that. I know my mom was proud of me, she told me a time or two. But many of those times, I don't think I really heard her. I think, years later, I sort of "get it."

And lastly, don't imply that creating children is a crime or a sin. Children truly are a blessing! And if this post bothers you, then maybe you need to get right with yourself.

Spent the evening scanning artwork we've kept in a box for years. One of the things I found is a small oil painting that my late uncle painted probably in the mid-1960s for me. Up until we moved to Oklahoma I always had it hanging in my living room as a way to honor him. This wasn't one of his best but he sure could paint some gorgeous large ocean scapes! I have one of those still too. He was a WWII veteran, my mom's brother. I have good memories of him even though he died when I was still young.

Thanks to Rope the dog and Hannah's boots, I have a great new photo. I used it as my twitter background page. Rope's quite the character. My granddaughter saw the dog from across the grounds during Western Spirit Celebration and took off to play with the dog. I'm glad she did or I wouldn't have gotten these great shots. I'll post more later today. By the time we got to the festival in the late afternoon, the Heritage Herd longhorns were nowhere in sight. Not sure where they went and I didn't think to ask. Last year I rode with the cattle drive, in the back of Steve Tevebaugh's wagon and every year since Mya was a baby, I've shot her photo with them as the background. Missed this year, drats! But we still managed to get some wagon shots and they are hilarious. Mya wasn't in the mood for photos yesterday. Another great thing this year was I had my first solo exhibit, which is still on display at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center. Four of my photographs sold yesterday. I'll post photos in another blog entry today. The show is up until the end of the month and hopefully more images sell! Go see it if you are in the area. So there I am sitting looking at my summer copy of Artful Blogging. Love that magazine, but haven't had a chance to really read much of this particular issue. I stumbled onto the Simply Hue section and thought, hey, that really sounds familiar, saw Vicki D's name and knew I had a connection somehow. Terrible how we get caught up in life and little things get buried in the abyss of our over-creative minds.
I had already put my computer into sleep mode and was about to head there myself when I saw the article. So I came back to my desk.
Sure enough, went to Simply Hue, then went to my etsy to find the original post/reply that started it all. Mine is the one at the bottom and what I sent Vicki. Her reply is after, so it's on top.

I Heart Faces and Shutter Sisters love!

Updating, Editing, Preparing for a Show

I've been busy updating my shopping cart site over at smugmug. I realized there were just too many old images lingering there so I closed those off to the public and just left a few from this past year. I didn't add anything new, but I did do some price changing and deleted a few sizes. Now it should be more customer friendly, in navigation and pricing.
If someone wants something in a particular size, just ask me and I'll reset that image to reflect the request. Remember, many links are available here on the blog if you look down and to the right.

I'm also going to soon be going back to a smaller blog photo and incorporate more writing. While I know so many online tend to gravitate toward the larger images on their blogs, I'm wanting to not look like everyone else online either. Plus it's just another three steps in adding those large images.
I figure if someone really enjoys my work, they will buy a print and won't need to see the large format online.
On a side note to this entry: The image is of a piano that is at the Sprague House B&B in Crescent City, Florida. My mother was a musician and had her own studio. We grew up with numerous instruments, her love was the piano and the violin. Sadly, I never photographed those items, but I do have her mandolin and an old guitar. I'd been longing to photograph a piano, and this was it.
As for SmugMug, I've been a member there for years, Pro member. I love having SmugMug as I do my Website, but I'm seriously considering letting both go when they come up for renewal again. That's a few months down the road, so no hurry on that decision.
I'm actually thinking of getting a new website, but again, no hurry on the decision. Meanwhile, I'm busy getting images ready for my first solo exhibit which will be at The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in September. So excited for that. It will be on display during the annual Western Spirit Celebration also and my prints and canvas work will be available for sale inside. You will also be able to just browse the show whenever the museum is open and I believe there isn't a charge unless you want to tour the entire place. They usually have free days during the annual celebration.
If you've been a long follower of my blog, you'll know about my book Riding The Chisholm Trail. This show will feature images from that book, which will be perfect as Christmas gifts for that special cowboy or cowgirl in your life.

People of Florida | Oklahoma Photographer

I have a thousand photos ??? that I shot during vacation to Florida, mostly landscape of the Gulf County/Apalachicola region. Yet, it was on the journey of our trip to Crescent City when we spied this man Sunday morning setting his roadside stand up, somewhere along the Interlachen area. I would have to look at a map to remember exactly where. His name is Vincent Shand and he's 80 and shared his story with us. As my husband listened I shot photos. He talked of how he quit smoking and drinking and became a Seventh Day Adventist who shares the gospel. His church was just across the road.

We bought onions for $1.50. And an old Bible for $5.

The last two shots were of Mr. V.A. Shand and his fellow 'brother' Brother McKinney. This was the second to last shot and I loved the complete honesty of their joyfulness.
One of the reasons I chose to make this my first Florida post was the impact that Richard Bickel had on me. If you walk into his gallery in Apalachicola or know of his work, then you will understand why this post honors him. He is a fantastic photojournalist and someone who understands the people and that region. If you are an aspiring photojournalist, I encourage you to learn about Bickel and his works. I bought one of his books and he signed it for me. That's another post.

Got a new lens and had to play. Thankfully MM was in the mood, slightly, to run around to a couple new 'locations' for photos. This first one is just perfect. She's at that stage where it's either she's refusing to cooperate for photos or she's hamming it up and this one makes me smile.

Best Fireworks Show ever! | Oklahoma Photographer

I say this for a couple reasons. One, we thought the rain would spoil it. Two, we always argue about where we will park or sit when we go to Marlow for the fireworks show. Three, we usually have to listen to some creep make remarks, or smoke like crazy, then we have to fight traffic to get home.

But this year, Duncan Chamber of Commerce put on a spectacular fireworks show, and from where they set them off we never had to leave our home, sorta. My husband set his chair up in the alley and we could literally see the set off point and the only distraction were the power poles, but I looked at that from an artistic point of view. And the fireworks were awesome!

What was funny was that my husband said, I'll 'call you' when they start, and out the door he went. I was in the bedroom hanging photos and believe me, when they started, I knew!
Scared me too. The house shook from the booms and I thought for a moment that the neighbor's fireworks had got away from them and we had trouble. Nope. I had my cell phone in one hand and camera in the other as I flew out the door.
It was so much fun, just wished all the kids had been here to enjoy it.

So thank you to everyone who made this show possible! Keep doing shows like that and Marlow may have some competition!

I admit that I'm a blogoholic. Now this isn't to go on the record and say I want to cure such addiction. Just the opposite. I blogged when a lot of my photographer friends thought it a waste of time.
Sure, I don't get comments like many people do out there on more trivial life items, but I still like to post my photos and blog my thoughts. I can look back and see old entries in my online whatever journal that make me realize how far I've come as a photographer mostly.
And I absolutely love looking at other blogs. It can be photography, art, home decor, food, it doesn't matter. I don't discriminate as long as it has visual impact that makes me happy or provides fuel for my own creative drive.
Do I have any thought to this entry? not really, just felt like dashing it all out.

Crapemyrtles in bloom | Oklahoma Photographer

I have found great joy in being able to give back to my community through the art of my photography. I went out Sunday morning shooting, held an umbrella in one hand and camera in the other so I could get some shots of the crapemyrtles in bloom for the upcoming Crepes for Crapemyrtle party. I will pick out two of them and they will be matted, framed and signed and available in the silent auction July 5. I had already donated two images, but Carolyn Rodgers, the organizer of the event, asked if I wouldn't mind switching out the images to keep it more in theme. No problem!
So I really searched for areas that I could get the nicest shots from. And in keeping with the whole Duncan beautification efforts and the fact I like to promote our history and future path, I went to an area that marries that concept. The old Duncan Middle School and the Prairie House. Both were eye sores just a few years ago and now they are looking like people care about them. They are close to Main Street and that's where the awesome mural is that shouts Duncan is the crapemyrtle capital of the state.
Anyway, it's getting ready to really storm, so time to stop my post before I lose it!

Friday evening love or 'You spoil me'

No photos, well later maybe. But right now, I just want to share my wonderful Friday evening. Little Miss MM came over and when her daddy was ready to leave, she informed him (now remember, she isn't quite 3 yet), that she would be staying with Meme. Hey, works for Me!
So, after getting her old toenail and fingernail polish off (which for some reason her mother insists on applying, the toes I don't mind). I cleaned her up and of course, always have a new outfit for her to wear. I put that on her and off we went to WalMart to go shopping.
She informed me that she needed, not one, but two, toothbrushes. One had to be a Barbie toothbrush for her home and the other for Meme's home. It didn't stop there, she wanted the toothpaste, the hairbrush and a few other things. Then in that precious little voice and darling face, she looks up at me and says "you spoil me." It was simply a matter of statement. She's right. I do spoil her and love doing it.
I had two boys and now I know that I wasn't meant to have a girl. I was meant to have a granddaughter so that I could have days like this.
We continued our shopping spree and found her a wonderful pink beach towel with lots of colorful butterflies, then it was off to find sandwich food.
And of course a "birfday" cake... which was just a single kids cupcake. She likes the frosting. I didn't take photos while we enjoyed our cake and pink milk. It was just joy to sit and have our little pink milk party.
After that, and gobs amount of frosting all over her face, it was time for her big bubble bath. She loves bath time like I love the beach. I can't wait to take her to the beach one of these days. It'll be pure heaven. For now though, we may have to settle for the lake.
Well, now it's off to hunt a treasure in a yard sale this morning. Have a great Saturday.

It's moments like this I love! I told Carly to toss the bouquet to Wil and this was the shot I got.

I love photographing weddings. There can be so much spontaneity if the couple has the right mindset. Forget everything you read about the do's and don'ts. It is YOUR DAY! So make it your day of memories. Don't try to make it a text book day, otherwise you will leave yourself disappointed. Carly and Wilson sure had the right mindset going into their big day and you could tell they were having fun. Even when the rehearsal left them drenched the night before, they never let that be a problem.
Thanks again you two! Even if I never photograph another wedding, you guys made me realize again why I love what I do. It was also pretty neat to do this one with my husband as my assistant. Thanks honey, you did great!

Dream Wedding | Oklahoma Photographer

I think I finally photographed a dream wedding. Carly and Wil couldn't have picked a more perfect location for their wedding and even though it was extremely hot and the after photos weren't the most "glamorous" (imagine being all hot and sweaty! LOL) the love and emotion between not only them, but all their family and friends for them made it perfect. There were so many wonderful little stories from this day that I plan to share here and there as I work on their photos.
Like the heart shaped by Wil into the 200? year old pecan tree where they exchanged vows under (it took almost an hour to transport all the guests down there before the bride was to arrive!), and the something old which the bride taped in her dressy flip flops. I feel so blessed and honored to have been chosen by them to share in their most grand day. I wish them the best and can't wait to share the images.

"Dream and Hope" set, because that's what it's all about for children!

There's nothing like walking into the Duncan Elk's Country Club and seeing the room filled with items donated from businesses and individuals to help the Duncan Chamber of Commerce & Industry support the First Day Program which buys books for kindergarten children (http://duncanbanner.com/local/x1996911798/Bid-Bash-set-for-tonight).

When Cindy Reynolds first asked me through facebook if I'd donate a couple of my prints, I hesitated, thinking, "you want some of my images?" LOL Actually, it was more like, gosh, how could I ever pick anything for this? Would people like what I chose, and then it was how would I choose.

So, when I looked through the thousands of files I had, I picked something I had not promoted online, had four images printed black and white, instead of the color. Then I had a couple of beautiful floral images that I love but had not framed yet, one in metallic. I ended up giving Cindy the entire batch of images. And she was so gracious also, because she framed the images! She really is as nice as she looks!
So when I walked in saw the tables, then saw "MY" photographs framed and looking just awesome, I was a bit surprised.
I love the way Cindy framed my floral images (the one on the right is metallic). Will have to order these again for my own delight!

It really made me feel good to be helping a program that benefits children and literacy.
It was also fantastic to see so many donations. Including this fantastic image which I fell in love with from Martha Burger (MB Images).

Everything is still HERE< just pushed to the bottom, while I try to figure out how I messed up my blog layout. I like the photos to be large, so I opted to keep it this way for now. I know I've been a bad blogger, and promise to add some new images soon. For now you'll have to deal with my rambling blogging. I picked up a copy of Trisha Yearwood's Home Cooking w/ cookbook. I've been salivating over it for awhile and it looks fantastic. I realized I have a huge collection of cookbooks but they are scattered in boxes, storage and here and there. I need to make a nice place in the kitchen for them. Especially since adding both Ree Drummond and Trisha's books. I've really had an affinity lately for buying "Oklahoma" products.
I especially love the photo of her and Garth and his foreward. Oh wow, what a guy. Writing something like that is a real gift of romance to his wife. Isn't that the sweetest! Especially in a cookbook!
If I'm going to be cooking and eating any of these yummy treats, I'm going to have to kick up the cardio levels in my exercise and quit taking the 'easy' way out.
My husband told me he wanted the mac*cheese, peanut butter bars and zucchini bread. He wants to compare the bread to some I have been making for years. Should I be worried? No way. Because if something is better than what I've been doing, I have no qualms about tossing my recipe to the back of the box.
I'm also excited about the feature I'm working on for the paper's Sunday Lifestyles page. It's on grilling, the start of summer.
And I'm just going to say that Duncan has some great meat markets and owners, along with some wonderful grill 'masters' and more. Be sure to see it online or pick up a copy if you are in town this weekend.
And, don't forget to think safety, on the roads, water, and when you're cooking or grilling!

I'm working on trying to get a video uploaded, but not having success. So trying youtube now.
This was actually the storm that is hitting Lake Fuqua and headed towards Bray, Elmore City, Pauls Valley, east of Duncan. We did almost get trapped in it, but found a road that got us heading back west toward U.S. Highway 81. Saw some flying hail and knew we might be in trouble. I won't say how fast I was driving, but let's say, it was fast and the rain was heavy drops. Passed a Marlow fire personnel truck, probably storm spotting. Called the sheriff after we got past it and then sat under some rotation until we decided we were just getting too risky. We actually started out leaving Duncan around 6:30 or so and it was clear and there seemed to be nothing, just tons of clouds north of us. We went out SH 29 east of Marlow to Bray, then saw it just exploding back toward Duncan, so we turned around at the junk yard on the highway and just a block or two down the road turned onto Cason Road and headed south. We found a good location to watch the storm build, listen to the thunder and then headed back to Duncan on our route, but then ran into the storm and it was a little tense for a few minutes until we got out of it.

When I first met my husband, he always talked about how he thought the Eagle was one of the greatest creatures. He talked about having a photograph, and this was before he realized my passion for photography. Try as I might in my early photography pursuits to get a photo of an eagle, it never happened. Lack of the proper lens was the main issue.
I pretty much gave up on the idea of ever getting the Eagle shot I so wanted to give my husband. Until we went to the zoo. I didn't go looking for the Eagle, in fact, I was having great delight in the pink flamingos and the bears.
In March, we took our granddaughter to the Oklahoma City Zoo and we were having so much fun and then she saw the Eagle. I took several photos and then read the information about the bird. Apparently it and another were injured, one was shot, the other was, I think, hit by a vehicle.
Anyway, this bird was the one with the injured shoulder and I laughed a bit teasing my husband and said, hey, the bird and you have something in common. He injured his shoulder and is still recovering from that. Course, he didn't see much humor in that. It wasn't until we were home and looking at the images that we realized just what a great shot I had. So on a whim, I ordered a 16x24 size (if you do that, expect to follow my instructions!) and because of the odd full size image, I had to have it custom framed. I've waited just over two weeks for it and finally got it today from Celebration Frames. What a great job she did! I love this image and my husband really likes it. So now it has a nice corner in our living room.

Took a drive over to Medicine Park. I've only been a couple times many many years ago and was disappointed. Not today! We didn't have time to stop in the little town, but it was bustling and then we saw some of the new home construction. Oh wow, some of those homes are so perfectly landscaped. The wildflowers were blooming and I saw a lone buffalo wandering, but didn't have time for that either. I did get some of the flowers and the lake and waterfalls. I shot this from the car. This is one of the neatest old trucks I've seen in a long time. Will definitely have to go back. I want some of those round cobblestones too, ha! Not sure how I'll get that wish fulfilled, they weigh a few hundred pounds. I think I'll rent a 400mm lens next time.

I love the lighting on this. The dark tones add that grittiness an old west cowboy needs. His expression was perfect. This will definitely become a metallic print. Or then again, maybe canvas!

I hosted a photographer's retreat Saturday and about 9 of us, plus a couple of husbands showed up. Then there were the gunslingers and the teens! And one awesome country artist who has the pipes to prove it! These first two are Erica Dawn, and I'm sure one day she'll be signed, but for now, she's enjoying being a teen and all those wonderful memories that come with that angst age. I've photographed her for years, and she just keeps growing up. What's up with that?!

Meeting Ree and iris blooms

So I am posting just a couple very fast images since I'm so tired I can barely keep my eyes open. It's been a long week and still a few days to go. Duncan had a very wonderful woman and her husband visit for a great cause. I'll say this really fast, Ree Drummond is most gracious. She probably autographed 600 plus books and talked to every woman who came through the book signing line..more than 300.
I was so happy that Abigail Smith of Abigail Smith Photography was also there and I took several snapshots of her with Ree and the Marlboro Man. Just a lot of fun!
I can't say more than the general stuff since I'm writing a story for the paper's Sunday Lifestyles page.

Dandelions and childhood twirls

This is for all those "oh no it's pollen" people. I saw the dandelions and was only reminded of my childhood and how I loved getting them and twirling with a handful of them to scatter the delicate 'feathers' and blowing on them to see them dance away in the sky. I posted one on facebook and right away some friends decided it only made them think of pollen season. hahah! Sorry all, but I think the bottle I stuck one in says it all for me.

Edna Mae (Mom's watching)

Gosh, this post will have a little of this and more of that. Kind of a departure from what I normally write. I'll start out with my short walk to the courthouse today. The Oklahoma wind blew and the smell was awful. My eyes had watered most of the day. As I neared the courthouse, the smell was horrendous. Then I looked up and discovered the reason for it. Bradford Pear trees in FULL BLOOM. They may look gorgeous but if you've never 'experienced' one, you are oh so lucky. In fact, this evening while blog surfing some favorites, there's a great post over at http://www.theletteredcottage.net/
Then my husband and I went to the local video/bookstore and while browsing books, I picked up Ree aka Pioneer Woman's book, reminding myself I need to buy it. As I flipped through it, the book just, I swear, on its own, opened to a certain page and I shouted (quietly) 'get out of town' my husband looked at me and laughed, went back to reading the jacket of Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter, then I showed him what had me in hysterics -- "Edna Mae's sour cream pancakes" recipe in Ree's book.

You see, I'm suppose to do a preview for the newspaper where I work on an upcoming event that the local hospital is hosting, a women's luncheon and Ree is the guest speaker. It should be a blast, but Ree hasn't responded to my numerous e-mails, tweets or facebook requests. I know she's busy, so I'm OK with that. I'll touch base with her soon, I'm sure.

But the reason I'm laughing is that my mom has a way of reaching out to me from beyond and reminding me she's watching or that things will be OK. It's always with her name. It's not like Edna Mae is a popular name, now back when she was born it probably was. When my husband saw that, he knew it was time we leave the store (and of course to get home and watch American Idol). I popped off with a parting remark - "I don't remember my mom adding sour cream to her pancakes!"

Pancakes were a main course meal in our home every Saturday. She made a HUGE batch of them since my triplet brothers could easily devour them. They were good, but Mom had to make do. They definitely weren't like the pancakes I've made recently. Just one or two does good, while I remember Mom's batter being a bit runny and it taking a ton of them to fill anyone up. And tons of Aunt Jemima or dark karo syrup.

I have to say, we may have not had a lot but we never lacked for anything that we needed. Mom was just clever that way.

The story behind this image: I usually go out for an evening twilight drive on my birthday, but knowing a storm was coming today on my birthday, and the weather was just awesome Friday, the day before, I broke tradition and went Friday looking for spring. I let my husband drive so I can focus on looking for the shots and we saw an empty house for sale, so I felt comfortable about going up into the yard. I've never had a chance to photograph one of these "tulip trees" closely. Amazingly, this tree had taken a beating during the ice storm that walloped Oklahoma in January. It had limbs broken and hanging and just would look pathetic, had it not been for these blooms! They were even on the broken limbs barely hanging on. It reminds me that no matter what may be put in our life's path, we can overcome it and have a renewal.
It also makes me know that today's snow is just a passing thing and spring will be back in a few days, probably even better than it was yesterday.

Pink birds, being a bear and having fun | Oklahoma photographer

We took MM to the Oklahoma City Zoo Saturday for her first trip there. It was the second day of the new Children's Zoo which is awesome, but way too many people were there. Parking was insane and law enforcement was there to assist. Still though, it was worth an afternoon. The 'pink birds' and the bears were her favorites I think. She felt bad that the raccoons were caged and the Elk was all alone. I'm in the middle of editing photos but had to share a few. I believe I'll make a book of her first trip.

When my boys were little I dreamed of being a great landscape and wildlife photographer. I think these photos are the closest I've come, ahhah. I would love to go to Bryce Canyon and other destinations, Yellowstone and more, for now this will have to do. I'm not sharing my best ones, of a bear and an Eagle. Not yet anyway.

Black & White Monday
Here is another of my vintage camera series. I must say that winter photography really pushes me to work outside of my comfort zone. I about froze the day I did these, but what's funny is that I usually don't notice the cold until I am finished shooting. Then it takes me hours and hours to warm up. Today I went out in the rain and did some shooting. The shots are a new project that won't be revealed for a few weeks.

Hello Yellow Happy | Oklahoma Photographer

Sitting here listening to Jason Aldean (for all of you who knew me 'before country', don't fall off your seat!) I've listened to country for years and I could give my husband credit, but really it was when I met a young girl who was all of 12 years old, about the same age of my youngest son.

Now this girl is grown up, married and has quite a bit of pasture behind and ahead of her to tread. Katrina Elam gets most of the credit for converting me to credit. Her enthusiasm for music is fantastic.

Then again, I'd be a bad daughter/sister if I didn't mention my mother and sister. When I was little, country was big in our house, but I didn't listen to it much. It was my mom's thing and she knew many of the artists back then and I don't mean just on the radio. That's a story for another time. As for Katrina, last I heard she was working on a movie, Pure Country Gift....haven't heard anything about it since last November. I'm sure it will be wonderful. go Google it for the 411.

Back to my morning though. I'm checking my tweets, facebook and such and discover Reed Timmer's update on weather for southwest Oklahoma..severe for tomorrow..whoohoo, why though on a Monday when I'll be stuck at work?! I love to go photograph the landscape and skies --storm chaser...ha.

Of course, being that I'm barely caffeinated I'm just looking at flickr textures and decided to play with some of my old photos that were neglected. Figured 'Hello Yellow Happy' would be a good one to start this Sunday and since it's gray outside it should perk up the day.

This darling baby was a week old but she already wanted to stay awake and has a personality all her own. She was not going to play "squishy baby" and wanted no part of laying on her tummy - darn!

There it was. In the perfect colors no less. I glanced at it, kept going, turned around and then again moved on. I couldn't stop thinking about it. That teal blue T-shirt with great yellow lettering.

I knew as soon as I saw it that I must, absolutely MUST get it and do a photo session of my granddaughter wearing it.
Oh, there were other fun shirts, a black one with KISS (the group) logo and I think one with Bubble Gum, but no, only this shirt would do.

See, my mom was a musician. Not in the way you'd think, but a violinist trained in the classical style. Eventually, children interrupted that career, as this was back in the 30s/40s. By the time I came along in the early 1960s, she was doing other things - like teaching at a private parochial school in the Bay Area. She also had a music studio and taught music. Well there I was in kindergarten and she was creating the greatest kindergarten graduation program. The children and parents loved her programs and she loved the rehearsals and the big "night." But this time, the drama behind the scenes was a story I heard many times growing up. Yes, by now you've figured out it has to do with this song.
She said the directors of the school told her she couldn't teach it to us because it was promoting drugs.

Her reply was I'm sure, one of righteous indignation. Mom loved music, children and teaching. Exposing children to drugs was not in her mindset. They also told her she couldn't teach us Puff the Magic Dragon. Seriously, a bunch of four-year-olds weren't going to sing these songs and go out and get high later. It was just so paranoia-extreme, their reaction to my Mom's choice of popular hit tunes. I can still remember being little and singing along with my mom to both those songs and also Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious!

And I also remember singing to "I'm a little Teapot, short and stout" NOW THAT I BLAME on those paranoid directors of that school! Yes, I'm short and times I battle the stout! going to work out tomorrow!
Anyway, I know my mom would have loved my granddaughter and she definitely would have had a laugh over why I bought this shirt! It just had to be so. Can't wait to print these.
Sometime I'll share a story about the cat and the fiddle.

OKLAHOMA PHOTOGRAPHER | teddy bear love

One of the many bears that can be found in my home. Basically, none are off limits because what's the use of having a teddy bear that can't be hugged, loved, dragged around the house and into the yard? I mean really, that's what they are for. I don't have dolls in my house, other than what MM has and maybe a couple others. I have three small Dawn dolls from my childhood that are packed away in one of those popcorn tins with a bunch of other leftover childhood things and I have a big doll that is missing a leg, I think. It's packed away too. The only other dolls would be handmade Raggedy Anns from my mom, but as for dolls, nope, not one of those people. I do like the Raggedy Ann dolls.
I think the reason I'm not a big doll fan is that it all goes back to the fact I lost the only doll I really loved. My sister gave it to me when I was like 7, it was made of rubber and had white hair. I saw one similar to it in the Prairie Rose boutique last year, but it wasn't for sale.
I lost mine when my oldest son was about 2 and pretty much swore off dolls. My mom had tons of them, including a massive collection of my large dolls, but I saw no reason to keep them and encouraged her to share with less fortunate little girls. After all, I was a grown woman.
Do I regret that decision? Never, not for one day.
MM wasn't into teddy bears for a long time, then she just decided that they were a good toy to have. She loves this one especially, it's the newest addition. She also has a red bear she loves.
At Christmas, I bought her a big 'Tinkerbell' type doll and a doll that would sing the "I'm a little teapot" song (I sang that at my kindergarten graduation, wow!). She has some other dolls and a huge Dora doll. But she's not overly attached to any of them.
Teddy Bears though. One can never have too many. don't scoff. I'm serious. You see, if you have plenty of teddy bears, there is always one that you can share with someone who doesn't have one. I personally enjoy hunting at the thrift and antique stores for teddy bears. I always give it a good Lysol spray and some Febreze first if I think it won't withstand a quick wash. Most are very clean to begin with, even if they appear scuffed. I think I have a huge box in storage that needs to come out and be aired and shared. Will have to do that this spring.

Mossy Moments

These two images were an unexpected surprise today. I was photographing some of my vintage cameras (which I plan to put in my etsy shop for sale in about two weeks, I want to get them ordered first) but after I finished shooting and started away, I spied the little shell and some teeny red berries.

There was some wonderful moss nearby so I set up the shot. The original shot is so rich and green, but since it's winter, I decided to add some red into the image to enhance the muted browns in the scene. I like this, but knowing my preference for forests and greens and the thought of Ireland settings, I'll probably print them in the green version. After I finished with the half shell and berries, I spied the white rock which was halfway in the ground.

I so wanted to take it, but figured it had a home there since it appeared to be in that hole for some time and the fact that it was on the land of a property that is on the National Register of Historic Places, I felt it was only proper to leave it alone.

I reached way back into some old files when I was learning TTv and textures and more..this is all I could come up with! Just kidding! You have my permission to use it as your desktop background if you want. Trying to think of a title, any thoughts? I was going to post an old wedding photo from 2007 that I shot for a friend but decided not to. By the way, I am booking weddings if you are in Oklahoma.
I'm looking forward to the Trail Dance Film Festival this weekend, but couldn't find my folder of images from ages ago, and have to head out the door to work. Have a great day everyone!

These dogs are so cute! I think they remembered me from their portrait session a few years earlier as I went to take this photo they both looked at me for perfect timing. Candace, I hope you like it though I'm sure you had thought I had forgot. It was grouped in with some photos on an external in an odd named folder so I couldn't find it.

Now I promise you, if you are a portrait client, I won't make you wait months for a photo!
