I already shared this on my personal facebook page, but wanted to share it with my blog readers, which is actually better, since it displays larger! I think I may even put this on my etsy page in case anyone wants to buy a copy. I also have some other things that will go up on etsy this week sometime, like the Hope and Dream candy hearts that can be seen in an earlier blog post. If you ever see one of my art images that you would like in a certain size or as a set of blank greeting cards, let me know and we can work that sale out.

Hello Yellow Happy | Oklahoma Photographer

Sitting here listening to Jason Aldean (for all of you who knew me 'before country', don't fall off your seat!) I've listened to country for years and I could give my husband credit, but really it was when I met a young girl who was all of 12 years old, about the same age of my youngest son.

Now this girl is grown up, married and has quite a bit of pasture behind and ahead of her to tread. Katrina Elam gets most of the credit for converting me to credit. Her enthusiasm for music is fantastic.

Then again, I'd be a bad daughter/sister if I didn't mention my mother and sister. When I was little, country was big in our house, but I didn't listen to it much. It was my mom's thing and she knew many of the artists back then and I don't mean just on the radio. That's a story for another time. As for Katrina, last I heard she was working on a movie, Pure Country Gift....haven't heard anything about it since last November. I'm sure it will be wonderful. go Google it for the 411.

Back to my morning though. I'm checking my tweets, facebook and such and discover Reed Timmer's update on weather for southwest Oklahoma..severe for tomorrow..whoohoo, why though on a Monday when I'll be stuck at work?! I love to go photograph the landscape and skies --storm chaser...ha.

Of course, being that I'm barely caffeinated I'm just looking at flickr textures and decided to play with some of my old photos that were neglected. Figured 'Hello Yellow Happy' would be a good one to start this Sunday and since it's gray outside it should perk up the day.

Summer garden

Beginning notes for my summer garden include lots of flowers that will make for great backdrop of photos as well as photographing the flowers up close. It also includes a small garden of delightful foods, sweet potatoes, radishes, rosemary and mints. Oh I can't forget the spinach and rhubarb!

Flickr addiction...what it really is good for...

How many flickr groups do you belong to? I'm horrified to admit, that earlier tonight it was at 273, now it's down to 269. And I'm sure I'll find five more this week to join. I discovered that if I haven't looked at a group, or it hasn't had any new items added, I'm deleting it.
I love the groups mostly because it feeds my creativity. When I'm feeling in a funk, I can enjoy at a glance many great images and also get the inspiration to go out and try to shoot something new or in a different way.
Also, I've found that flickr is a great way to bribe my granddaughter to sit still for a few moments! She's approaching that constant flow of energy 2 year olds seem to have. But if I pull up a group with a lot of images, like CATS, or DOGS, or HORSES/cows, she'll sit there and watch the slideshow run and just talk and carry on! It's fun and at the same time, she's learning, colors, objects, etc...
As for me, I can't say there is any one flickr group that is my absolute most favorite, though I love Shutter Sisters and any of the nature groups. I also enjoy the storm groups and anything that shows off our country's vast landscapes and fading past.

These are at a local B&B, the rains had beat them up pretty good, but they are pretty and romantic with the glow of the light.

Spring Saturday

Just two of the many I shot of this corner blooming shrub yesterday. I saw it in the morning on the way to work and knew it was in the perfect stage for great photographs. Not so many blooms that it would be all you see, but just enough. And I've always thought this fence was fantastic. The homeowners (haven't a clue who they are) but they always have potted plants on the porch timed for the seasons. And a vintage bicycle that leans up against the fence. The dogs in the back barked and barked but either were on a chain or just not interested enough to come to the fence, which I was kind of glad because their barks were kind of boisterous. All I wanted to do was photograph the shrub. I've tons more, will post later sometime. The house across the street also is another photographic adventure but the old guy who lives at it is too friendly. Oh he's a nice sort, it's just when I'm photographing nature, I don't like chit chat in my ear constantly! Kind of spoils the mood, ya know?
Today I am headed out to our local humane society shelter to do dog portraits for their upcoming fundraiser. Wish me luck!

Archives of flowers

This first image I shot about four years ago. This is straight of the camera, no adjustments to it, no textures. It was a daisy my youngest son had picked for me. He's 21 now. Imagine a teenage boy picking daisies for his mom! Sweet!
Anyway, I was testing out my D30 when I first got it and wanted to see what I could do with it as far as apertures went and such. Back then, it was just another test shot. Going through my files tonight, I decided that I really like this shot. Kind of dreamy, with that out of focus factor and off-centered composition.

I teetered tonight on what to post, as I know many of you like my cowboy and western images but just as many of you tell me in e-mails that you like the floral shots. Thank you everyone! And please post on the comments here. It's like my guest book and means a lot to me to come visit my blog at the end of the day and see comments about my work. I haven't done much shooting these past few weeks, but have some projects in mind. I bought some peaches yesterday and will probably do something in the morning before I head off to work. Catch the nice light. Which reminds me, I probably should go rummage around in my kitchen cupboards for the right prop for the peaches. Which also reminds me, I still need to get to my storage units and find more props to shoot with.

Floral play

CREATIVE SPARK -- Blame it on Matthew McConaughey and Fool's Gold. I loved that show. Rented the DVD and my husband and I had a blast watching it. But the creative spark started tonight with a photo I shot in Fort Lauderdale, that is now my new blog banner. I added some textures to it and really like it. I may make this image my new self-promotion card (sounds like what it is...a business card). Then I decided to play with some of Joy St. Claire's textures on one of my recent flower shots. Actually, the creative spark began this afternoon as I surfed blogs and was inspired by so many talented photographers.
Not much else to write. I think storms are headed our way. I should be in bed, but then I would just lie there with a million things running through my head. So glad I have a Starbucks frap in the fridge for the morning.

I tried earlier today to post this and other photos and some comments. Had to come back to add comments. Isn't this the nicest little home? No, not mine, but I am so glad to do some drive-by shooting and catch the sprinklers going. I love the colors of this place. It's nice to live in a neighborhood where people really care about their homes.

It's so nice to live in a neighborhood where people really care about the appearance of their yards and homes! I did some drive-by shooting yesterday evening and got two photos that I really think are wonderful. I love the blue house only around the block and the sprinklers just happened to be going. Can you see it? The colors of this place are awesome and the flowers are just enough appeal without being overdone.

The roses blooming on the weathered porch posts are only two doors away from the blue home. I wonder how long those roses have been there. Just beautiful.

And the little garden cherub is in my front yard. The flower we just planted this weekend but my cats knocked the bloom off so I stuck it there for the photo.

Simplicity and Surround

Two of my TTv shots, using an old Duaflex and my Canon 30d. I added a texture overlay also on the first shot. Second shot is two of the TTv images composited. Quite different then the car shots, I know, but the simplicity of it all surrounds me in my new home and I love it. These will be available for purchase in my etsy shop, not sure yet as to size, either 5x5 or 8x8. I'll have the info with the images in the shop. These are wonderful pieces of art for those who collect the little TTv treasures. A simple mat or mat/frame and you can fill an empty niche on your wall.
