In the middle of a dry winter (read that drought continues from 2011) January nature and outdoor/landscape shooting means looking closer at the land and the light around you. I decided these bare trees perfectly depict Oklahoma and the effect of the drought and past few hard winters.
It's not hard to drive around southern Oklahoma and find horses. Even though there was a beautiful sunlight from the setting sun shining on him, again, it's January and I wanted a cool and moody feeling to this image. He has his eyes closed and I thought that was interesting, adding to the somber moment I was looking for.
